Red Tent: Healing in Nature with Visiting Teacher-Naturalist Dr. Opeyemi Parham

December 8 @ 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Sunday, December 8 in the NBNC Yurt | 10 am – 3 pm (attend for all or part of the day)
$5 – $20 Sliding Scale | Registration Required | Register Here
Open to all women interested in exploring themes of reproductive health

Women in the United States have a love-hate relationship with their bodies — consequently it is vital to create safe, sacred spaces to discuss the things we don’t normally talk about. This time with Visiting Teacher-Naturalist Dr. Opeyemi Parham will be based on the concept of menstrual huts, red tents, spaces where women separated themselves from the larger culture to focus on reproductive health. There will be a Women’s Council Circle during the day, as well as teas to sample, massage offerings, and spaces to rest and lie down.

Limited to 14 participants. Registrants are welcome to come and go during the 10 am – 3 pm time.
Optional sunrise meditation time and collaboration to prepare the sacred space, beginning at 7:15 am.
Free childcare will be available on site for children ages 2 and up. (Note the update since the email announcement: free is correct.)

About Dr. Opeyemi Parham

Dr. Opeyemi Parham (Dr. O) is a retired family physician, and a writer, teacher, healing artist, interfaith minister, and community activist. She specializes in women’s reproductive health and healing through nature.

Dr. O is also the donor of Dot’s Place, NBNC’s yurt. Dr. O used her inheritance from her aunt Dot, who loved nature but was unable to fulfill her dream of farming, to purchase the yurt to serve as a nature-based affinity space for BIPOC folks in Vermont. After Dot’s Place was displaced from its original location by the July, 2023 flood, Dr. O generously donated it to NBNC to continue to fulfill this dream of nature connection for BIPOC Vermonters.
