Deep in the boreal forests and bogs of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom lurks a suite of charismatic yet elusive bird species found nowhere else in the state. On this winter adventure through the Kingdom with NBNC Birding Ambassador Chip Darmstadt, we’ll visit birding hotspots in search of the “Boreal Grand Slam:” the Black-backed Woodpecker, Gray Jay, Boreal Chickadee, and Spruce Grouse. Along the way, we’ll look for crossbills, waxwings, siskins, evening grosbeaks, and other charming winter nomads of the north woods. Spotting scopes and binoculars available. Destinations will vary based on weather and recent reports, but may include Victory Basin, Moose Bog, and/or other destinations in the Nulhegan Basin.

The van will depart from NBNC in Montpelier at 7 am, but participants can arrange for pickup or drop-off enroute.

Limited to 10 participants
