Please join us at North Branch Nature Center for an evening celebrating our fall art exhibit, Wool and Water. Tour the gallery, meet Michale Glennon, the organizer of this collaborative project and creator of many of the pieces, and enjoy some light refreshments. Michale will give a talk about the project and the science behind it at 5 pm.

About the Show:

Wool and Water is a collaborative project that blends fiber art with scientific information to create visual representations of changing water quality conditions in the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain Basin. Originally created for the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act in 2022, the aim of this project is to showcase the legacy of protecting clean water in the Champlain Basin and beyond.  Knitting, crochet, weaving and other fiber arts are used to illustrate concepts and trends related to our waterways, and to provide inspiration for their protection.

Wool and Water features more than 50 works that highlight water-related concepts ranging from the basics of lake stratification and turnover to the impacts of pollutants, invasive species, and climate change on aquatic life. Michale Glennon, Senior Research Scientist for the Adirondack Watershed Institute, organized the project and created many of the pieces, but the growing collection now includes works by more than 30 additional artists and makers.

Wool and Water will be on view in the NBNC gallery September 27 through December 18, 2024. See our art gallery page for more information and images from this show.
