Cool off in the heat of summer at this community-wide, family-friendly river celebration! Visit each river access point at the Nature Center to partake in different activities and adventures along the North Branch. When we take care of our rivers, they take care of us! We’ll see you at RiverFest!
River Bugs: Aquatic Insect Lab (1 – 5 pm)
Get up close with the amazing critters living underwater in the rocks and riffles. This hands-on research station for all ages is hosted by Lake Champlain Sea Grant, Saint Michael’s College, and ESPCoR CWDD.
Riverside Art Studio (1 – 5 pm)
Make beautiful collage and watercolor art along the river’s edge with teaching artists Rachel Mirus and Chelsea Clarke.
Habitat Restoration (4 – 5 pm)
Join NBNC’s Conservation Steward in a riverside invasive species and native plant restoration project.
Fly Fishing Demos (1 – 5 pm)
Join Trout Unlimited and Vermont Native Fish Coalition to practice casting a fly rod while learning about Vermont’s fisheries.
Explore the riverside flora and fauna with NBNC naturalists.
1-2 pm Botany – Braden DeForge

4-5 pm Birds – Chip Darmstadt
Picnic and Swim (1 – 5 pm)
Bring a lunch, hang out by the water, or take a dip in the North Branch.
Live Music (1 – 3 pm)
Upbeat, outdoor string music by “The Tickled Beats.”
Kids Crafts (1 – 5 pm)
Build a boat, make your own caddisfly case, and other river-themed children’s activities with NBNC’s educators.
Friends of the Winooski (1 – 5 pm)
Visit with our regional river and watershed stewards. Find out how everything at RiverFest fits together to cultivate healthy and resilient waterways.
NBNC (1 – 5 pm)
Visit with our staff and volunteers and learn more about NBNC. Then pop into the Nature Center to see our river aquarium exhibits, featuring native fish and invertebrates of the North Branch.
