The Caterpillar Lab – Public Moth Lighting Night

September 5, 2021 @ 8:30 PM - 11:00 PM

$10

Sunday, September 5 | 8:30 – 11 pm
$10 at the door | FULL!

With specialized light bulbs and a few white sheets, The Caterpillar Lab’s moth lighting station turns the NBNC quad into Vermont’s single greatest concentration of biodiversity for one special evening. The station will attract thousands of insects for us to enjoy and investigate, including hundreds of seldom-seen moth species decorated in ornate patterns and strange shapes. The Caterpillar Lab’s expert staff will guide us on a family-friendly tour of our awe-inspiring nocturnal neighbors, as we enjoy all the huge, tiny, regal, absurd, furry, shiny, gorgeous, perplexing, audacious and outrageous moths that Vermont has to offer!

We’ll have our first arrivals shortly after sunset, but the abundance and diversity at the moth station will increase throughout the night, especially after 9 pm. Stay for an hour, or stay all night!

The program begins at 8:30 with a brief indoor overview of moth diversity and life history while we wait for the first moths to arrive at the lights.

This program is full. Thank you for your interest!
