The Nature Conservancy has been working to safeguard Vermont’s biodiversity and ecological function for more than 60 years.  Our work is deeply focused on Vermont, but tightly aligned with conservation efforts at the regional and national scale.  Gus Goodwin, Conservation Planner for the VT Chapter, will share some of the science and strategy that guides The Nature Conservancy and highlight the places, projects, and partnerships that make Vermont such a remarkable state.

About Gus: Gus Goodwin is the Senior Conservation Planner for the Vermont Chapter of TNC. In this role, he shepherds conservation projects from start to finish, engaging in conservation science, land protection, and ecological management.  In short, he does a little bit of everything.  Driven by curiosity and an appreciation for the complexity of the natural world, Gus has developed a broad background that includes botany, wildlife tracking and road ecology, surficial geology, and conservation planning.  Throughout all this runs a common thread of connecting science to conservation actions.

About Naturalist Journeys 2024: This year’s series focuses on climate change — but not in the ways you might expect. From beavers to sheep, forestry to fires, and music to mental health, we’ll explore unconventional approaches to safeguarding our planet, our landscapes, and ourselves in this climate crisis. The series runs January through March, with a mix of virtual and in-person presentations.
