Micah Bernat's story begins in the suburbs of Boston where he found himself avoiding the city at all costs and venturing out into nearby woods for walks and runs. The forest has always been a sanctuary for him and a refuge from the overstimulation of life; holding space for quiet, calm and reflective ways of being. This feeling of being held by the woods, combined with a childhood passion for science, led Micah to study forestry at the University of Vermont where his learning was enhanced by classes in plant biology and dance. Experiences working at an elementary afterschool program and teaching tree identification as an undergraduate TA sparked an interest in education which is much of the reason he was drawn to North Branch Nature Center. Micah is thrilled to join the NBNC community! Now, freshly graduated from UVM with the exciting feeling that the world is his oyster, he is longing to inspire others to see the beauty and love that exists in a forest, and all other places of the Earth. Some of Micah’s favorite activities include dancing, rollerblading, playing music, and going for snail paced walks.
