Birdability Week (October 19-25) is a celebration of birders with disabilities and other health concerns, as well as an opportunity to share resources and ideas to help the birding community become accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everybody. Birdability is a national nonprofit organization working to ensure the birding community and the outdoors are welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible for everybody through education, outreach advocacy.
This event will include several guided bird walks along the Universal Access Trail and the NBNC meadow trail with NBNC staff and members of the Feminist Bird Club of Vermont. There will also be a guided stationary bird watch (a little “Big Sit”) at the nature center. Snacks and cider will be available thanks to a generous donation by Hunger Mountain Co-op!
ASL interpretation for bird walks and the Big Sit provided by Vancro Integrated Interpreter Services and donated by the Vermont Center for Independent Living.
Inside the nature center, check out the bird feeders and learn more about NBNC, Vermont Land Trust, Birdability and other organizations providing accessible outings, accessible trails and advocating for inclusive birding. The nature center’s library will be reserved as a quiet space. Masking is welcomed and extra masks will be available at the door. Binoculars will also be available for birdwatching.
This event is free and open to the public, but we ask attendees to please register. There will be additional accessible parking spaces for this event.
