Weeds into Wonder: Sculpting with Invasive Plants (Drop-in Build Day)

Thursday, November 6 | 10 am – 4 pm (lunch break 12 – 1 pm)
Free | In-person at NBNC | Drop-in: no registration required
Join Visiting Teacher-Naturalist Justin Cifello for a drop-in work session to harvest small materials and begin filling in the sculpture! If you did not attend Monday’s presentation or Tuesday’s workshop, please arrive promptly at 10 am or 1 pm for a quick catch-up on the project and process. Otherwise drop-in anytime to work for as long as you’d like. We’ll break for lunch from noon – 1.
This program will take place entirely outdoors, please dress for the weather and bring your favorite pair of work gloves if you have one. We’ll also have gloves to borrow.
About Justin: Justin Cifello is an artist and organic farmer from Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. Inspired by his lifelong fascination with nature, Justin volunteers as a trail steward, educator, and writer for local land trusts, with a focus on native and invasive plants. His interests have merged in his unique sculptures, which he has been creating from invasive vines and shrubs since 2010. One of Justin’s goals for his sculptures is to help restore the natural balance and biodiversity of the local ecosystem by removing invasive plants from the environment (while taking care not to spread seeds) and giving them a new purpose. He has created sculptures of dragons, monsters, sea creatures, geometric shapes and wedding arches using largely natural materials and often situated in public parks.
Part of our Fall Visiting Teacher-Naturalist series. See below for more info and full calendar of events, and learn more about the VTN program here.
