Part of our Resilient Rivers Series

This workshop is designed for town commissioners, municipal staff, conservation professionals, and land stewards.
This hands-on workshop examines the factors contributing to damaging floods in Vermont, and explores ways to reduce flood hazards in our towns. Using an interactive stream table model, we’ll discuss topics relevant to municipal infrastructure and town planning, such as dam removal, channelization, culvert design, dredging, and floodplain development. We’ll then explain how the new Flood Safety Act addresses flooding, and how towns and organizations can be ready for its implementation.  Instructed by Alison Spasyk (Lake Champlain Sea Grant) and Tessa Yip (VT DEC Rivers Program).

This project has been funded wholly or in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency under assistance agreement (LC 00A01526-0) to NEIWPCC in partnership with the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
