About the Show
Inspiration for Heather’s paintings comes from being immersed within landscapes or within the life of a bird. Intuition plays a central role drawing her towards her subject(s) to take note of light, color, movement, and presence. Heather began abstract paintings using pastels of circles interreacting, then began studies of birds through drawing and watercolors. Wanting to go larger and deeper, she began using pastels to paint landscapes that were central to her life. Birds and landscapes merged into intuitive and narrative scenarios using pastels, watercolors, and a collage technique. She says, “the process is always unfolding to awaken my voice within.”
About the Artist
“Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, my artistic roots are anchored at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. I moved from the Boston area in 1980, raised a family in Putney and Montpelier and worked as an elementary school librarian at Barre Town School in Barre, VT. I have been a career children’s librarian for 26 years, and am currently the Outreach Coordinator at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Being creative has always been an essential expression of mine through teaching children, raising a family, dancing, gardening, cooking and painting. The world of humanities exploded open to me when I moved to the east coast in 1971.”
