Program

ECOECO is a long term nature immersion program that teaches students outdoors on a weekly or bi-weekly basis throughout the school year. Each lesson builds off of the previous as part of a dynamic and comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the Common Core (math and literacy) and Next Generation Science Standards. ECO capitalizes on the opportunities of learning outdoors that support social and emotional learning such as group dynamics, work projects, learning to take care of others and how to take care of our environment. We aim to meet each classroom community’s needs for learning outdoors.

ECO works with primary education students here in Vermont. We encourage schools to begin with their earliest learners so they can benefit from a continuing and growing ECO program as students move through the grades. The habits of dressing, behavior, safety and appreciation for the environment are established in the first years, therefore creating opportunities for deeper learning in the older grades.
