Bird Drawing Contest (grades K-8)

  • Artists may choose Scarlet Tanager, Bald Eagle, or Green Heron. 
  • The young artists are encouraged to research the bird’s habitat and learn more about their chosen subject.
  • Winners in three age categories will be selected by judges in the birding and art fields.
  • Contest entries must be submitted by Friday, May 19.
  • Awards will be presented to the winners May 27 at the North Branch Nature Center’s 6th Annual BirdFest.

Judging criteria:

  1. The following information must be written on the back of submission: artist’s name, grade, age, contact information (phone number and address), and name of school attended. To ensure anonymity, please place contact information only on the back of the entry. We will have no way of contacting winners without this information.
  2. Drawing must portray one of these specific birds: Scarlet Tanager, Bald Eagle, or Green Heron.
  3. Bird must be depicted in its natural habitat.
  4. All entries must be on an 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper or smaller.
  5. Drawings can be done in a variety of media (colored pencil, crayon, water color, pastel, etc.) providing it is flat and is within the size limitations.
  6. Judges will be looking for drawings that demonstrate knowledge of the bird and its habitat, as well as artistic creativity and ability.
  7. Submissions will be grouped in the following categories: K - 2nd, 3rd - 5th, and 6th - 8th grades

Prizes related to art and birding will be awarded May 27th at NBNC’s 6th annual BirdFest. Awards will be given to first, second and third place winners in each age group.
